On January 29th 2026, Rosco Procom, an approved Bekaert distributor, hosted a comprehensive Steel Wire Rope training seminar at its Rigging and Lifting Division in Point Lisas.
Led by Mr. David Zavala, Technical Sales Representative for Bekaert, the day maintained a dynamic pace, bridging the gap between theory and field application.
Attendees were guided through the complex anatomy of steel wire ropes, dissecting core types, construction methods, and preformation characteristics and further revision on the distinction between Safe Working Load (SWL) and Minimum Breaking Load (MBL).
Key training modules included:
- Handling & Storage: Best practices for reel transfer, packaging, and preventing material degradation during storage.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Protocols for visual and non-destructive electromagnetic inspection, establishing clear criteria for when a rope must be retired.
- Oil & Gas Applications: A specialized look at winches, pulleys, and blocks utilized in high-demand offshore environments.
During the afternoon session, participants witnessed a high-impact live destructive test; a wire sling bursting under tension in a controlled environment. This demonstration simulated the failure that occurs when safety limits are bypassed, providing a visual reminder of the importance of adhering to load limits.
Bekaert provides steel wire ropes for every industry, including Oil & Gas, Cranes & Industrial, Surface mining, Structures and Marine.
Approved Bekaert distributor, Rosco Procom offers dedicated technical training and support.
